It is not a small amount of money but only NA doesn't include the trans oil change as a part of the first service for reasons that are not technical. Even in some other markets like here in Chile which also has a free service included during the warranty period they follow BMW A.G. example and change it. And the gear box functions smoother afterwards, it is noticeable. I think if you feel like you are going to keep your car for some time and it is not just a one year toy then you should consider changing it. Probably it will be cheaper if you buy the oil and change it yourself in a place other than a BMW dealer.
