I've been doing this for a long time on vehicles with the continental two axle air struts without lowering links and without a separate module.

It can go very, very low, but it's unpleasant and will throw faults past a certain point. It's not like putting lowering springs on which have a higher spring rate to compensate for the shortened range of compression.

I dropped one of my A8's down for an event 10 years ago. The drive there and back was excruciating even with it raised up to lift height.
