Hello. I recently had to replace the battery in my 2008 135i. I searched everywhere for a cheap alternative battery (i.e. not BMW brand) with comparable performances and I finally found it.
My original battery was:
- Brand: BMW (Exide)
Type: Lead battery
Model: 61 21 8 381 765
Size: L5/49/H8
Amps: 90Ah
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 720
Reserve Capacity: 160
I found this one at Home Depot:
- Brand: Exide
Type: Lead battery
Model: L5/49X Nascar
Size: L5/49/H8
Amps: 107Ah
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 900
Reserve Capacity: 185
Price: $119
In order to register the new battery I had to get the Carly for BMW app (full version - $59/yr) and the Carly adapter ($62 on Amazon).
Total cost was $119 + $59 + $62 = $240.
The
BMW website for battery cost estimator it ranges from $310 to $460. So even with the cost for Carly app/adapter I saved a third of the money. And I learned about registering a new battery. It's all good.
