761 1Ms were built for the US market. 222 were built for the Canadian market. These numbers include press cars, pre-production cars and exhibition cars. I don't work for BMW, so I don't know what they mean by "740 cars sold", but my guess is that it only counts brand new cars sold to a dealer. It doesn't include BMW of North America cars imported for press and testing. However, most of those cars end up in private hands. So in my opnion the only number that should be used is the 761.
