I've only heard the top hifi system once, but for the upgraded drivers and better processing, I'd say if one only had 800 bucks for an "upgrade" (by which I mean if one never wants to do a further upgrade, and one is ordering the car new and can get it as an option), it's not too bad. That is, I do think the stock "top hifi" system does image better than the stock "hifi" system, and has a little better defined bass.
It's not worth a retrofit, and it's not worth getting if you intend to do any real (as in aftermarket) upgrades, that's for sure.
And I got much more out of investing in a jbl ms-8....
