Agree, just take a lot of photos and try new stuff. Don't fall into the trap of thinking high end equipment = good photos. A D90 with a "nifty fifty" (50mm prime) is a great place to start and learn. I had a 50 1.8 but moved to a 1.4 when a friend ran over the 1.8 with his car. I would probably still shoot with the 1.8 if it wasn't destroyed. It is acceptable across all the performance metrics and is CHEAP. The 18-55 isn't one I'd hang onto though. The zoom is kind of a crutch... IMO you are better off using the 50 and zooming with your feet if you want to learn quickly.

I like your photo a lot! The haze around the 128i logo is bothering me... you might try stopping down one stop and see if you get more consistent sharpness. Other than that, there isn't much to criticize in that shot!
