In that link, replacing 2 (with aftermarket poly), 6 (shift lever ball wears down), 7 (cup bushing), and 13 (small sponge that degrades over time) makes a huge difference in more positive shifts.

AKG DSSR was an awesome upgrade in my E36, I highly recommend one. It can be a bit tedious to install because you have to file down the plastic on the shift lever and rod joint to get a very snug fit between the DSSR and those components but it adds another level of solid to the shifter.
#6 and #7 are a simple 5 minute swap. I don't think you can change #2 without dropping the transmission.
