nice dude... also remember when looking at the Mac's, just because its not a laptop doesn't mean its not good. I had a $3000 17" Powerbook G4. I had to have the big screen for photo stuff but when I went to go upgrade to the new G5 Macbook pro, the sales guy offered this to me: If you think you want a big screen for editing thats fine but 1. The technology on the macbooks is pretty frickin nice, especially when you upgrade the RAM (which I did) and the iMacs offer a beautiful huge screen and excellent performance at a fraction of the cost of a Macbook Pro. I ended up getting a Black 2.0 GHz Macbook AND a 20" 2.4GHz iMac for $700 less than I would have spent on getting the Macbook Pro.
I'd say unless you absolutely need a computer to bring around for school/work and all that, skip the laptop and go for the iMac. You can get a 20" 2.4GHz for $1199 and all you have to do is spend like $200 at Crutial.com to upgrade it to 4gb of RAM and make it a beast. or if you WANT to drop like $2k, get that and a $999 white Macbook for portability. Even that route, you'll still saving about $1000 over buying a 17" Macbook Pro that is in my opinion too bulky of a laptop anyway.
