I emailed ZF to find out if the transmission in the 135i was the same as the 335i even though it was made in France. Jeff Diehl's (at ZF) response was that "ZF does not have any transmission manufacturing facilities in France."
He also said:
"If the 135i transmission is listed as made in France it is not a ZF transmission, most likely it is built & engineered by GM. BMW has used GM transmissions in the E36 line back in the 90’s, this was very common. ZF does not always have 100% coverage in the OEM markets."
Does anyone have a contact at BMW that clear this issue up? I was mainly curious to find out if it was the same as the 3 and Jeff's response does not gel with BMW's window sticker.
