DST plates = Distributor plates. That could mean either a dealer or the manufacturer - they aren't the
California MFG plates which would be manufacturer only. That would probably mean the marketing arm of BMW in the US is the owner of the plate, since a dealer doesn't keep any 1ers in stock. ; -)
BMW services their press fleets out of NJ so they run NJ distributor (or MFG plates - need to go look at a pix of the M5 I had in the driveway a few years ago). This is not some schlub vehicle that someone is ashamed to show the BMW badge on.
