I do not know what is different... but there IS a difference. Someone once posted that the ceramic inner cone is different. All I know is so many guys have had problems with the OEM vs very few people (to no one) having problems with the OE(dealer bought) plugs. That is why I went with the dealer bought plugs. I did not want to do this job two or three times.
