Looking at the diagrams for the E90 and E87(www.realoem.com/bmw) it looks like the different reservoir indicates Active steering, not electric steering. The standard hydraulic has a star shaped cap on the reservoir, While the active steering has a flat round cap.

Also, servotronic only refers to variable assist, not to weather the steering is electric/hydraulic/mechanical
