I stand to be corrected but i also think the M3 cowel will allow heat to be released as its not being blocked by the cowel( I know my bms cowel filters did this as you could see the heat haze off the windscreen in our hot South African summer days)

Lastly, I think it just looks so much neater and nicer!

I can confirm it's probably half the weight of OEM. The OEM one is a much denser and heavier plastic than the M3 piece.
