1. I prefer private sales; you can really get a good sense if the car has been well looked after. Especially quiz about maintenance and repairs.
2. 1 or 2 owner
3. maintenance records: this is critical. The 135's can have lots of issues-you need to know what has been done and what has not. Needless to say, a PPI is recommended. Records should show at least 2 oil changes per year.
4. no paint work (or minimal) hence no accidents. My car had a hood scratch repaired due to kids basketball. I've had my car 8 yrs now-no problems.
5. ask the owner what brand tires on car. If they know=good. If they don't=not so good. Tires-Michelin, Bridgestone, Toyo (and most of the tires sold by The Tire Rack) = good. Wang Ho Super=not so good
6. join BMWCCA immediately. There are hundreds of CCA members in your area who would be more than willing to help you out. They know the cars and they know the best garages.
