But I agree, having no simple, mechanical way to get into the trunk with no power is colossally stupid.

You can also physically flip the trunk latch so that it's "locked" while open. Can't close it that way. Even if someone moved the floor panel for you and was helpful. Then just hit the unlock button when you're done and close the lid.
