I've always wondered if the numbers on a tach of a diesel where replaced with what appears on a tach of a gas engine, if the person would really notice? I mean, with out knowing the exact rpm... but you know that you are nearing red line and need to shift from 1st to 2nd, do you care how fast the engine is spinning? For example, if you hit 45km/hr and you need to shift, does it matter if the engine is at 3000rpm or at 6500rpm?
To me it seems it just has to do with the gearing.
