Original problem solved for me. Replaced the fuel pump and I can fill up the car no problem and never get a smell of gas in the garage anymore. That problem is solved.
New problem has been introduced. When I fill up the tank to the top and try to start the car I get very, very long cranks up to 7 seconds or so with increasing frequency in sound, pitch and intensity until finally the engine turns over. Will create a separate thread for it.
