Won't be changed to 2 series. Even numbers are reserved for the niche models and pure sports models, not mainstream models. Think Z4, 6 series, Z8, and probable Z2.

1 series is a full model range therefore will stick with 1 nomenclature. Don't forget that in Europe we have 3 and 5 door 1er hatches too.

But I also agree that BMW should get over the old M1 and use that name on an M 1er. As said above it fits nicely in with the M naming convention: M1, M3, M5, M6 etc....
