Right, sucks but if you continue thinking like that the only thing you can take out is an umbrella 90% of the time, isn't it?
Alternatively:
a) Put better tires and get out, keep the DSC on, it won't melt under the rain
b) Travel to (South) Europe more frequently
c) Change your country
