No evidence of reliability here
I have had my 135i cabriolet since it was new in 2009. Here are the engine issues to date:
Factory Warranty
1.High pressure pump, 10,000 Km (6,635 miles)
2. Program control units for High pressure pump
3. replaced 3 injectors, 37000 Km (23,000 miles)
Extended warranty
1. replaced water pump 58,000 Km (36,000 miles)
2. oil filter housing cracked, replace along with gasket
3. replaced all 6 injectors, 74,778 km (46,400 miles).
Many non engine items repaired under the 2 warranties including:
-seat bolster motor fried causing smoke throughout the cabin
-rear window defroster wires deterioration
-side mirror cracked
battery cables
-wrong size seat leather
-and lots of other little bits.
Finally, out of any warranty, the AT transmission failed requiring a new selector assembly (on order from Germany). So that is were I stand as of 85,000 Km (53,000 miles). I am out of all warranties and issues look like they will continue.
Conclusion: You take your chances with a 135i, it is not a reliable car but it is just a joy to drive and it moves dam fast.
