No food on the trip, 14 hours is long so try to just knock it out as fast as possible. I did all my eating in New Orleans, all of which was delicious. A bit drunk at the time to remember names sadly. I'll think of them.
I'd have to figure out how to get my bike across the US if you're in Cali haha.
Simple life is the way to do it. Adventures are good too, little bit of everything to keep things interesting.

No no, I got nothing but an attitude from her. I paid for anything and everything living expenses and such. Cooked most all meals. Did all car repairs. Vacations. Yada yada yada yada.
Amount of time doesn't equate to quality of time.
