My 135i is a 6 speed manual with the N55.
I asked my local BMW mechanic about what he thought of the car, and he said they were fantastic. The only thing was to make sure it was the manual and N55. They were mechanically less complex to work on.
Bought the car in 2019 with 79K miles on it. Had to fix the parking brake cable, replaced the brake pads. Several months later I got the air filters changed and the front tie rod assemblies replaced. Then came the wheel alignment right afterwards.
It definitely costs money to maintain, but its well worth it. But mine is mainly a weekend car. No major issues with my car.
