That's not true at all... BMW redesigned the pvc system on the n55 to curb this exact issue. How can there be buildup if the air doesn't carry any oil that far? Again, I've yet to see a single n55 valve cleaning show carbon buildup other than a light film of soot. And again, there are very few people with n55s finding ANY oil in their catch can. The only n55 I can find with pics of oil in their can is actually showing it's full of rusty water...

A catch can is cheap insurance, but a valve cleaning is a waste of money if the cars not displaying any symptoms.
