I have the same pitting problem you do.. I personally believe its the road spray off transport trucks in the winter. I plan to respray before I put my car away for the winter this year and right when spring comes I will apply some 3M PPF.
You have to be careful applying PPF after a fresh respray because if you do it too soon the gases in the paint don't evaporate properly and you get pinholes in your paint(solvent popping)! It's best to let all of the gas evaporate before applying any vinyl on top! i know it varies from paint but i thinks its about 30-60 days for all of the solvents to dissipate.
