It's a BMW thing since 2007. The car has to know the battery size and rating for charging. The ecu runs the alternator for "smart" charging over the battery's life. IF you just replace the battery... the new battery won't last very long(w/o coding it to your car).

You can also use the "Carly App" to register a new battery along with a OBDII wifi plug. This combo runs less than $70 for both. :thumbs:
