For the record, BMW said the same thing about the E85 Z4...and my dad has an '07 M Coupe in the garage. I wouldn't put much stock in what they say now....
There will not be an M1. There is too much heritage there with that name. There will be an M-Sport or some other derivation of an "M" version of the current 1 series, but without calling it an M1.
