After searching for about 9 months and then weeks of trying to close out a sale with a private party seller in LA, I'm finally a member of the
1M Club! The car was a fully loaded version and is stock aside from window tint and had under 23,000 miles when I got it.
Since I live in NorCal, I took
Route 33 back. It was as advertised -- great twisties through the Los Padres National Forest with smooth road surfaces and not too many cars. I'm not sure if the orange color made a difference, but all the drivers I got stuck behind quickly pulled over! There were also long straight sections where I got a taste of its Autobahn pedigree
My current car is an E46 M3 (and an S2000). The 1M feels very different! The clutch is really light and the shifter is smooth with short, light throws. The torque in the 1M is impressive and took the bumps a bit better than my M3 (although that has Bilstein PSS9s and is due for a suspension bushing refresh). The iDrive is disappointing and requires a lot of inputs to do simple tasks.
Enjoy some photos from my first day with the car, plus a bonus of an Orange M2 Competition from the LA Auto Show with a sweet carbon fiber hood.
