Effectively they take up to 4 cameras as one can see quite easy. How these are used depends on the individual installation. Also as said, this laser-based system can track cars during lane-changes and while it is approaching. So depending on how these are set up, they can get you from both sides and if they like to fool around even with 2 cameras per direction .

Ouch. And there is one of those "poles" right in the entrance to the street I live in.
