OP, as far as your question goes it's certainly a "get what you pay for" thing. My 135i had been wrapped 5 times, with every variation of DIY to paid vinyl shop jobs. Depending on your background, you might be totally fine with a DIY job (after watching lots of YouTube). I've come to accept vinyl for it's benefits and flaws, which it has its fair share of both. If you want a drop your car off and pick it up a different color general quote, you're looking at around $2500+ for any half decent wrap job to do it. I just paid $3k for mine and it's still not a perfect job. They are however, picking the car up with their trailer to fix some issues and then drop it back off. That's one of the benefits of having a shop with a good reputation handling it. Let me know if you have questions |

I've been holding off doing this as my rear arches aren't done yet. Might paint the car afterwards anyways.
Haven't seen a wrap that would hold up to the gritty roads here though. Expensive temporary color change in that way. Color will be Porsche Miami Blue or Atomic Teal, something like that.

Cost varies from location to location. A few of my friends have wrapped their cars (GTR, Aston Vantage, 911) and it's ~$3500-$4k for a high quality job including door jambs.
I'm getting my roof wrapped next week including the shark fin and rails for ~$500 Also, keep in mind the vehicle will ideally need some detailing/clay bar before being wrapped or small imperfections will be evident. |

Food for thought I guess. Either way for me I have a lot of work to do on our X5 before I decide wrap this thing.

Most dont do them, to be honest. I bought a black car intentionally so that I wasn't really forced to do jambs. But to answer how it's done, usually it requires the removal of the doors prior to wrapping the side of the car. Some shops will do it all in one piece, others will do the jambs seperately with a seam. Haven't really seen a lot of hinges wrapped. I'd assume most paint them black

Thanks. Mine is Vermillion, not all that bad with a black cabrio top and black Boston leather. But there are other colors that are much more appealing. Red jambs would scream CHEAP if they were not covered up.
