3.46 ratio 335i diff on 3.08 ratio 135i

Hi all,

I am trying to put an LSD into my 2008 MT 135i, I was able to find a bolted ring gear diff (7566152) from my local junk yard. My question is, beside the taller gear ratio (3.46 vs stock 3.08), it should be direct bolt on for my MT 135i right?

That sounds like the full pumpkin from an automatic. It should bolt right on. Just to clarify, your plan is to buy an LSD, put it into this scrap yard pumpkin, then install on to your car right?

Also, the 3.46 ratio is a shorter gear ratio than 3.08.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, that is my plan.
I know the gear ratio is not ideal but that is the only pumpkin I can find with bolted ring gear (according to the PN, havent picked it up yet).

On the contrary, some prefer the shorter ratio for faster acceleration. It's sometimes called the poor man's supercharger. Makes the car feel more powerful without doing anything to the engine. I also changed my 3.08 final drive to 3.46 for better acceleration in tight autocross courses. I think it makes the car feel even more alive.

I was just being an ass and pointing out the use of the word "taller" wasn't quite right.

I totally agree, just my skill level might not be able to handle the torque, it is already a powerful engine. BTW did you put an LSD in yours? If so, do you have a good shop to recommend for LSD installation (pinion depth, preload, backlash etc, too much for DIY) ?

Sorry, no help on your questions. I bought the LSD already installed in a full pumpkin. I ordered from ECS tuning but other shops have those available too. I didn't have the knowledge or experience to deal with exactly what you're asking.

Are you planning to code out the e-diff after installing your LSD? You don't have to but I found it kept grabbing the brakes coming out of tight corners despite having a mechanical LSD.

Yes will code that one out once I have the LSD installed.
