N55 PWG Boost leak test, what am I doing wrong ?

As per the title
I’ve taken off the intake hose, for the entry point.
Put a bung in the valve first pic attached

But I just can’t seem to pressurize the system.
If I take the oil cap off there up is a bit of pressure, a slight hiss as it releases.
The mrcartool im using seems to work ok, if I put my thumb over it it the gauge quickly goes up to 1 bar

When I smoke the system there doesn’t seem to be any coming out, part of me is wondering is it coming strange out the exhaust? Is that even possible?
Any help would be appreciated.

When I did it. I left the main intake tube on as well. That way the pcv hose was tied into the pressurized system. With that unplugged I feel like air will just leak out. I might be wrong though. And feel like you should just see the smoke coming out as is. I added the smoke machine in at the top rubber boot that the intake (top)air box goes in.

Thanks I tried your method first but I got leaks, where I attached on my second attempt as pictured.
I thought the duct I removed wasn’t supposed to have a super strong seal as it’s only 1 screw coupling it.
So maybe that’s that weak link in my car and I just bypassed it, oops.

Did you have a proper air compressor ? Or a cheap one like mine run off the car battery?

I have the same (ish) one you do. And it builds pressure.

The spot you did it is fine, I just don’t know about the pcv hose being open.

Also, like you said it’s on the intake side so the seal isn’t under pressure at the first two connections. But everything past that is. Where is the smoking coming out of?

when i did a test as pictured i put a pung in the breather pipe.

i thought i closed the loop, as when i fist did the test smoke was indeed coming out it

if i remove the oil filler cap after about 10 minutes of trying to pressurize the system i do get a slight hiss, release of pressure so it is pressurized only very slightly not enough to register any pressure on the gauge

reason im testing is i was only getting 0.5 bar of boost on an MHD stage one map, i found a crack in the charge pipe coupler, replaced with an mmr aluminum one,

now im getting about 0.85 bar of boost but the target is 0.95 so i think there is still a small leak in the system somewhere

edit there is no smoke coming out anywhere and the system doesn't appear to be building any measurable pressure
