Insurance Companies in VIC
Hey guys,
I am moving to Melbourne in a month or so and I will not be able to retain my insurance with RAA (which sucks because they are awesome). Any recommendations who to use in Melb? I'm obviously not interested in getting the cheapest quote online as I can imagine everyone here thinks the same. So I I don't mind paying a bit more if they are easy to deal with and will cough up when it comes to the crunch and not skimp and Id like be talking to someone in Australia when I ring up! Cheers |

I found AAMI have a reasonable price and RACV is not that far off. Forget about the rest especially Coles insurance, they have quoted me double the price of AAMI and RACV.

I've always been with RACV. Reasonably priced, and you get to choose your own repairer should something happen. If I recall correctly, AAMI tenders the job to 3 panel beaters and picks the cheapest one, i.e. you don't get to choose. Shannons is good too, but you need a club membership to sign up I think.

I've recently had an excellent experience with Budget Direct. Option to nominate a preferred repairer, claims process was easy.

GIO is choice of repairer as well. Blanket cover for most modifications now too. Had a claim with them (not at fault) and it was seemless, certainly no questioning my repairer.
AAMI is not choice of repairer, know someone who found out about that.

RACV - had a recent claim with them and they recommended one of the best smash repairers in Melbourne that I was going to go to anyway. Can't argue with that!
Choice of repairer, agreed value that includes all mods (ie. you don't have to list each mod), choice of excess and very reasonably priced. MB Prestige also good, a little pricier. As others have said, avoid AAMI |

Awesome thanks guy. Looks like RACV has the most votes, but I will look into GIO and well..... maybe budget direct (the name only puts me off). I need to insure 2 cars and house contents so it has to be a general insurer.
Cheers fellas |

From memory RACV doesn't cover the contents of the car, Shannons does.
