Took My Girlfriend To Watkins Glen (Video)
Watkins Glen International Speedway opens their track to the general public every year at the beginning of spring. I have been going to this event for the past four years, and each year leaves me with a smile on my face and happy memories.
This year, I brought my girlfriend with me and we delved deep into the world of cars. Being with me for over a year, she understands and sometimes even encourages my passion. So when we started our journey in the morning and ended it in the afternoon, I could tell she was a keeper. We started at a local garage where ~300 cars gathered to do a cannonball run down to the Glen. American muscle, Japanese cars, ricers, stance boys, a few Italians and lots of German cars. Most of the German cars were BMW's and I was the only 1er there! It was nice having random people shout out if I was driving a 1 or 2 series, and I liked it even more when they complimented the color of my little 1er. Deep Sea Blue Metallic really is gorgeous After our fun run, we ended up at the track and got in line to do 3 laps. The only rule being that you can't overtake. At this point she saw a smirk on my face as I purposely lined up with the red ribbon army of Audi's, E63 AMG-S, and Porsche's. Finally it was our turn to get on the track, and we set up our two GoPro's to record the front of us, and the other to record US! Please note, we can't overtake.

Looks like you two had a blast! Too bad you can't overtake... the inline six was just begging to be driven! I hope to do this next year, and you said they do this every start of spring? I am in as early as now! I'll be moving back to the NE soon and I look forward to this! Hopefully you can share some more info (PM if you prefer) about that yearly spring event so I can sign up.
Thanks for sharing. Last edited by $iriu$black; 04-19-2017 at 08:02 PM.. |

I'm from Syracuse but I didn't get my 1er until after I moved to NC. I'll be up to visit in July for the Nationals. Itching to try and get over to the Glen.

We had lots of fun! The drive down is gorgeous especially if you go along the lake, hard to keep your eyes on the road. There is also a lot of other scenic areas, definitely worth to spend a day in the area.

It's my favorite car related day of the year, not only is it blast for you and your car but you are surrounded by like-minded people! I just hope some poser doesn't ruin it for the rest of us.
Any chance you can PM or post the info for next year's even Gray Panther? I'm really interested! Thanks man. |
