Color Wrap?

Would you color wrap your car? If so, what color? What is a cost for something like this?

Thanks suprgnat! that account is..... on time out for not being nice to the G8x guys

OP, as far as your question goes it's certainly a "get what you pay for" thing. My 135i had been wrapped 5 times, with every variation of DIY to paid vinyl shop jobs. Depending on your background, you might be totally fine with a DIY job (after watching lots of YouTube). I've come to accept vinyl for it's benefits and flaws, which it has its fair share of both. If you want a drop your car off and pick it up a different color general quote, you're looking at around $2500+ for any half decent wrap job to do it. I just paid $3k for mine and it's still not a perfect job. They are however, picking the car up with their trailer to fix some issues and then drop it back off. That's one of the benefits of having a shop with a good reputation handling it. Let me know if you have questions

I've been holding off doing this as my rear arches aren't done yet. Might paint the car afterwards anyways.

Haven't seen a wrap that would hold up to the gritty roads here though. Expensive temporary color change in that way.

Color will be Porsche Miami Blue or Atomic Teal, something like that.

Wrap will still take damage if the stone hits it right. But it's a lot less painful taking vinyl damage than fresh paint. It's also "cheaper" to have a bumper rewrapped than repainted for stone chips. Ultimately it all just depends what someone values more, the flexibility in color changes and cost versus the permanent but undeniably better finish of paint. One day I'll settle on a color and repaint the car. With either option, PPF is also available. So in that sense, stone chips are much less a worry

Cost varies from location to location. A few of my friends have wrapped their cars (GTR, Aston Vantage, 911) and it's ~$3500-$4k for a high quality job including door jambs.

I'm getting my roof wrapped next week including the shark fin and rails for ~$500

Also, keep in mind the vehicle will ideally need some detailing/clay bar before being wrapped or small imperfections will be evident.

Hadn't actually considered that. I've had my front end resprayed 3+ times through the life of the car if you count the 1M clip. Having the front end rewrapped once every year, every other year wouldn't be too bad.

Food for thought I guess.

Either way for me I have a lot of work to do on our X5 before I decide wrap this thing.

The one question I've always had about wraps is how well the door jambs, hinges, etc. are done. Anybody help?

Most dont do them, to be honest. I bought a black car intentionally so that I wasn't really forced to do jambs. But to answer how it's done, usually it requires the removal of the doors prior to wrapping the side of the car. Some shops will do it all in one piece, others will do the jambs seperately with a seam. Haven't really seen a lot of hinges wrapped. I'd assume most paint them black

This is the answer I've gotten from the wrap shops here: "black is the best for wraps, don't need to take the car apart for the jams/seams to look unobtrusive"

Thanks. Mine is Vermillion, not all that bad with a black cabrio top and black Boston leather. But there are other colors that are much more appealing. Red jambs would scream CHEAP if they were not covered up.
