So I got my Cobb today

I ordered a Cobb tuner and a charge pipe last week and so far I got the tuner. The pipe is being delivered to the FedEx store since they need a signature. I am not sure I want to go ahead and put the pipe on and hook up the tuner until I order the rest of what I want: aFe sealed intake and exhaust and possibly Intercooler. Since it "winter" here in Phoenix, I think I can get away with putting the Intercooler on hold until at least spring. I'm not sure how long I will wait until I can order the rest of my parts but do you guys think I should wait until I have more of a complete package or go ahead with what I have? Thanks for any expert input you may have!

I agree with this^^^^

If you're going to install a FMIC, I would just wait till you had all the parts for the air intake system and then rip it all apart. To me much easier, that's what I did.

I think that sounds like the most efficient way to do it, all at once while I'm digging in. Of course I may just drop it off at a local tuner shop here in Phoenix, Goodspeed in Scottsdale. I don't have a jack or stands and am nursing a ruptured disc in my back so I really can't be bending and contorting. Plus I want a before and after dyno.

Thanks for the input guys!

I finally hooked the Cobb up this afternoon and am not happy. I started out with the lowest, or most conservative stage 1 map and it was an absolute dog! When first pulling away, it felt like a manual with a badly slipping clutch (it's an auto btw). After the trans got going, the car felt like I took the turbos off of it. So I pulled into a gas station and flashed to the next stage 1 map. Same thing. After I went through all the first stages I said f- it, try stage 2. So I flashed to stage 2 aggressive and it now felt like I put the turbos back on but it had no power below 4500. My radio wouldn't work either. So I went back home, unmarried it and put it back in the box where it shall remain until the new owner unpacks it! I was so nervous in the first place to start screwing with the ECU that the thing sat on my desk for the past week.
So needless to say, I have a brand new Cobb AP for sale, 100 bucks off the new price (shipped) for anyone who wants it!

Yikes. This is one of the reasons why I'm starting with suspension and sound system improvements. I'm actually ok with the stock power levels. What I'm not so happy with is the rubbery feel of the rear end.

Something is wrong with your car if it felt slower. A lot of times when the engine is programmed to run faster faulty problems like weak coil packs, bad plugs or injectors show up. What year and how many miles?

Something was done wrong or something is up with your car. I did the Cobb install first prior to any mods using map 1 and I felt a BIG improvement at that point. So, I would dig a bit more before tossing in the towel. Make sure you selected the correct ECU map for downloading to your Cobb.

I'm stock running Stage 1 Aggressive and WOW! Car feels amazing. Runs smoother and the power is definitely noticable. Next up is some non run flats the PTF tune and FMIC. Did you run the Stage 2 map with no supporting mods? Maps were designed for use with supporting mods/correct octane.

2010 20k miles, Completely stock. All I did was hook the AP up, download the factory tune, select the stage 1 tune and upload it. Don't what the deal was with the tranny, but it didn't want to move at first and then the rpm's went up and found a gear. There was nothing in the engine below 4k until it felt like vtec kicking in. Yea that bad...

What do you mean the correct ECU map downloaded TO the Cobb? Don't they come pre programmed for the specific vehicle? The AP knew what car I had. Am I missing something? Well obviously I'm missing something.

Thanks for all the help so far btw guys!

Sounds like user error. Each map is designed for specific modifications. Not sure why you would even attempt to put it on stage 2 being all stock. Accesport is the easiest and safest way to mess with the ECU. If you think you are uncomfortable with that, you should go buy a jb4 and let me know what you think of it. My advice. Make sure you put the correct map onto the ECU, if getting error codes use the accesport to diagnose what they are. Fix them and then enjoy the power. Modifications always require more maintenance. If you aren't ready to pay for maintenance then don't mod.

Sometimes you have to drive the car a while after a reprograming. That is certainly the case with BMW's PPK.

1st make sure you have the correct Accessport. 2010 should be a N54 engine. Then connect the Cobb to your computer and download the latest version of the maps. Read all the descriptions of what each map does and requires. You should be at stage 1 with either linear or aggressive as your choices based on your car being bone stock. It sounds like you either put it in Valet mode or there is some maintenance that need to be addressed on the car. Again, the performance should be like night and day.

Mine was the same way. As soon as I installed charge pipe. Bam. Car was a beast. That being said. I would check spark plugs. Sounds to me like something is malfunctioning from the elevated boost.

Well I finally got my charge pipe the other day so I guess I will give the tuner another shot once I put the pipe on. Not that ots an "upgrade" like an Intercooler or intake is, but I'll go for round two nonetheless. Of course I should just wait until I get the intake and do all at once. Oh the decisions...

Ok so I made a second attempt and this time was successful. I loaded stage 1 ST sport and felt a noticeable difference in power, night and day actually. I now notice how sticky my tires are not! Or at least the one drive tire I am not without problems again. My radio controls do not work at all! No buttons on the head unit work, not the volume, channel buttons, tuner selector, nothing! The steering wheel controls do work though for the channel and volume. So I figured I would try another tune, I loaded stage 1 LT aggressive. Still no Bueno on the radio buttons. Any thoughts or similar experiences out there? Any input is appreciated!

Did you have a battery charger hooked up to the car when doing the flash? Was the radio on? The ECU is very sensitive to voltage dips so a battery charger is highly recommended. I would make sure every electrical option is turned off (e.g. Radio, interior lights, A/C, headlights, etc.), hook up a battery charger, and try again. It doesn't cost you anything to do this, other than a few minutes of your time.

Rear subframe bushings need to be upgraded to the m3 ones. It drove me nuts.

I did not have a battery charger hooked up as I park in an underground garage and nowhere to plug one in. I had everything off and this time didn't open the doors as I did on my first attempt. The quick start guide from Cobb states to not open the doors while the programming is underway. I think that is what may have caused my first attempt to fail. I did flash to a different stage 1 tune this morning and my radio started working again. Don't know why but it works for now.
