OMG! We are becoming common,..

I have almost crashed my car looking at the oncoming traffic for 135is over the last three months. This morning I saw **4** 1ers in 5 minutes on coro drive. 1 black vert, 1 black coupe, 1 SGM vert, and 1 titanium silver vert.

Its a hot car at the right price, can't blame em really!

It'll just push us enthusists to do things to 'our cars' to make them stand out more.
Even though i haven't got mine yet, i thought i was sold on the 19" CSL's to make it stand out a little more. Now i am having a re-think as i think the car demands something more classy.
Jesus i am actually re-thinking my colour choice aswell! Still time to change that though.

I think that's an isolated incident...

I've been looking out for them (1er coupes or verts) for the past 5 months and have only spotted 2 in all of that time here in Melb. and I'm in the City everyday and drive from Nth West to Sth East burbs nearly every weekend...

On the other hand, I sometimes see up to 4 or 5 hatches a day...these however have been on sale alot longer and most are the cheaper 120i's I see around...

I highly doubt the 135i coupe and verts will become that common (may be a different story in 5 years time...) despite being great value for money - comparatively speaking for their price point and market place - and this is a good thing for those who do have one

I think the main factors that wiil determine how many we will see on the road are supply (don't get me started on the waiting period,..) and that they are clearly not a family car. Many will still opt for a low end 3er or a C class merc or something. My starting point was a driving car that wasn't silly expensive. I looked at everything from the cayman down to the MX5. Lucky I spoke to my car broker - he put me onto the 135. I had always planned for the kids to hitch a ride with wifey and VW Tiguan but having those two seats in the back with a quasi-functional boot sold it for me (oh, and the straight 6 with two hair-dryers!!).

Apparently in Perth you need a minimum of 200 cars in the metro area before you can notice a presence. They're coming into WA at a rate of 5 a month apparently so they're gonna be rare for a while here!

I've seen 3 - 5 round here (135's) But I guess the BMW dealership is just around the corner from where I work so I could be seeing the same ones going around! Be that as it may I have seen one on the other side of town. And live next door to a black 135 vert.
Yep.

That's a US only thing, Penny. The 1 series has been around in hatch guise for a few years elsewhere in the world.

Hey cozza, where abouts are you 'hanging' in Melb. to see one a day LOL - as I and smarm have mentioned we've only rarely spotted one

The only Melb. person I'd expect to see them on a daily basis is WAY and that's because he lives next door to a BMW dealer

Also going by what BMW Doncaster told me about a month and a half ago, there can't be too many around (we're talking coupe/verts here) as they told me they're lucky to 'move' 4 or 5 per month !!! at that rate, I don't think we'll ever see them around on a common basis, once again, that's a very good thing for the 1er coupe/vert owners out there

Apart from those driving out of the Eagle Farm holding yard near my work - and the test drivers that also come out this way, I'm yet to see one on the road?

Maybe I need to move to another suburb where there are not so many. I guess it really was a freak event seeing so many this am,.. unless they were on the way to a club meet.

Definiately getting more common but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I see one every day or two recently around inner city sydney

Still have only seen the one (coupe) in Canberra and no verts OTR.

It may be because the dealer only had 6 builds for the whole year for 135 coupes! (plus mine, heheheh).

There are about 8 maybe 9 135's and similar 125's to be in town this year. Rolfe have done a bit of 'swapsies' on other cars to get the extra's, thats how I got mine, was swaped for a particular x5 that another dealer wanted.

I think BMW is quoting around 500-800 Verts in Aus in the next year. Sounds like a lot but divide it by 5 Major cities, (Perth, Adelade, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane) and that drops it to 160 each- max, not including the rest of the country. Seeing as I ordered mine the week it was released, was luck to get my slot and still had to wait 3 months....
