2011/2012 BMW 135 or 2012 golf r stage 2?
Hi guys,
I am deciding between purchasing a 2012 base golf r stage 2 with 10k miles and a 2011/2012 135 with the N55 engine with around 25-35k miles. I currently drive a 2010 stage 1 GTI and am longing for something with more power and better ability to put down the power. The rational choice is the BMW 135 since it is more car for the money but I somehow can't seem to write off the golf r. I was wondering whether anyone has been in a similar situation or has any general input..it would be appreciated. I've driven both vehicles. The 1er sounds a lot nicer, feels more refined and has a smoother powerband. The stage 2 golf r on the other hand, feels perhaps a little bit faster and more raw. I have never owned a RWD or AWD car so I do not know which I'd prefer. Thanks for looking guys. |

You drove the BMW? What does your heart tell you?
They are both nice cars. The BMW is probably a little more "grown up." I like the Golf R it's cool. Having never driven a Golf R, but having owned a mkIV GTI vr6, I would say the driving experience would be a little more refined in the 135, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a golf R. I prices are equal and you can't decide, I would always go with the newer car, with less miles. But that's just me. Good luck let us know what you decide.

I was considering the same exact cars and I came from a 1.8T but I chose the 1-er. The frustrating thing about VW's is that you always have to tune / mod them to stage whatever just to get it the way it should've been and my days of owning highly tuned (or warranty voided) cars were behind me. My n55 in stock trim is fantastic. I would only consider the golf r if you need 4 doors, awd wasn't even a factor since I've driven a rwd with snow tires and always got by in tristate winters.

Oh okay, phew! Golf R stage 2+ (Hpfp upgrade) will be a very fun car! Especially if you go with the United Motorsports tune that comes with features such as 2 step launch control and no lift shift. You can make up to 320awhp.
