Fuel pump may have just gone?

Car ran just fine yesterday. I turned it on this morning and it was misfiring a bit like usual in cold start mode. Then a really loud whistle/whine starting coming from the engine bay. I turned the car off and there was a strong odor of gas and some smoke that came from the exhaust. Is the HPFP quitting on me?

The codes I pulled were
-misfire cylinder 5 and 6
-multiple misfires
-fuel pressure plausibility

Also I noticed when all this happened the cooling fan kicked up to full speed.

Smoke or steaming coolant?

Nothing from the HPFP should be smoking anything, bottom line. I've blown just about every pump and fuse you can in this fuel system and it's usually very abrupt especially if on the low pressure side. The pump works or it doesn't.

Is the fuel pressure code 2aaf? If you have Cobb that's a shadow code.

The smoke was coming out the exhaust not from the engine bay. It wasn't a huge cloud of smoke but there was some. My wideband was reading really lean almost to the point of not registering on the gauge.

Sounds like a couple bad injectors.

Yeah I was doing some research while I'm at work and it's looking more and more like the injectors. Damn it!

Oops I just noticed I mistyped the reply above. My wideband wasn't reading lean it was reading insanely rich. Practically 10:1. Fortunately I only had to drive less than 1/8 of a mile to get the car back home.

Agreed on injector failure. Typical failure results in the injector being stuck open, which explains your extremely rich ratio and smoke. Count yourself lucky you have the N54 instead of N63, talking to my tech he mentioned that injector failure (identical to our injectors) on the N63 usually results in a blown block.

The N63 block will blow from an injector being stuck open!!?? Wow. That would suck.

As everyone else said probably injectors.
Happened to me couple months ago , changed injectors worked good for couple weeks then fuel pump failed .
Turned out both (injector and fuel pump) gave out at the same time

And... also replace that fuel line pressure switch near the HPFP when you have the pump replaced. Its a must.

Thanks for the replies. Heres the update:
Pulled injector 5 and plug 5, the plug reeked of fuel and of course is fouled. I swapped injector 2 and 5 just to see if the misfire would move cylinders. Oddly enough it did not, I turned the car on and it popped and cracked like usual in cold start mode, cylinder 4 and 5 misfired which is what I normally get in cold start. No misfires on cylinder 2 at all, once the car went out of cold start, it ran perfectly. I cleared the codes and revved the engine a few times... no misfires at all. Now I am waiting for the fuel system to depressurize so I can swap the injectors back to their proper locations then I will restart the car and see what happens. I do have a back up set of plugs so I can replace the fouled ones.
