Halogen to XENON solution!!!!!????
I was browsing through ebay and found this!
http://cgi.ebay.ca/PREMIUM-XENON-for...QQcmdZViewItem and I wasn't sure if anyone out there tried it, and I'm sure the chances are slim because there is a lot more people with factory xenon. Anyways any opinions? warnings? It be wicked if this could work for me because I really want to ditch my halogens. |

I actually bought HID bulbs+ballast from bimmian.com http://www.bimmian.com/HIR/82
I havn't put them in or tried them yet though, you have to cut a hole behind the headlight cover (the big black plastic thing to keep condensation from entering your headlights) in order to run the wire from the bulb to the ballast which is a huge problem for me at the moment, I wish i had a solution for that now |

cutting a hole in the back cover of the light is no big deal.
WE (a few friends and I) here owns 2006-08 323i which did not come with xenon, we tried retrofit it. The problem is the car will display a RED color service icon and it dings you every 2 minutes when driving. Reason why because halogen is running @ 55 Watts and xenon is 35 watts. When the computer senses the wattage drop it will display an error. We went to the dealer see if they can program the car for xenon, Dealer said NO, can't do it. We bought real OEM xenon lights, did not work We bought many after market HID kits, did not work We bought and added error correction module, did not work We bought custom design error correction module "parachute kit", did not work again. what a waste of time and money. I assume the same shit will happen to the 1 series. if xenon is a must for your new 128i coupe. just buy the premium package and you will be happy. hope this help you |

This is really your only option, if you want it done right. A retrofit, if it ever becomes available from BMW, will cost several thousand dollars. Not worth it, when it's only an $800 option.

I did ask about retrofit xenons when I picked my car up.
It's much much more involved than switching a lighting unit & changing a few settings apparently... My CA estimated that it would cost somewhere upwards of $2500 for the parts & then it'll maybe take up to a day to fit them. Maybe he was just trying to dissuade me or it could really be that expensive, in which case the premium package would be decent value. . |

But be aware that while the premium package includes lots of stuff, xenons are not among them; they are a separate, stand alone $800.00 factory option. (My 128i is only driven infrequently at night, so it has the ZPP, but no xenons.)

xenon + the angel eye are bundled in the premium package with the premium pack, you get light package, sunroof, etc. I think it is worth it. if you were to buy a set of xenon headlights and try retrofit, it will cost you around $3000 and no garantee will work. |

I bought a set of Xenon like bulbs for the fog lights on my Z4. They were not Xenon but when I installed them, they matched the Xenon headlights perfectly. I don’t know about how far and bright they were since they were fog lights but if you just want the Xenon look they would work.

xenon like bulbs are white color halogen bulbs and will not throw an error in your car. xenon is nearly 3 times as bright as halogen. |
