Fast Service -- Tire Rack!!!
OK Tirerack, I'm impressed! I ordered a set of black 18x8 O.Z Ultraleggeras for my 135i late last week. They shipped last Friday. They arrived to my post office here in Germany today! That's amazingly quick!!! On Wednesday morning they will be mounted and at that point I'm just waiting on my CF rear spoiler to complete my mods. The spoiler should have been here last week!
Pics on the way Wednesday...

+ 1 For tire rack. I bought tires and ASA wheels from them mounted, balanced and shipped for $200 more than I could have gotten the tires alone locally. Fast shipping. I will use them again.:headbang:

I cant wait for the pics! The black Ultraleggeras will look sick on the 1er.
Ill give tirerack a shout out as well. I ordered my wheels from them last year and they arrived very quickly. One of the center caps of my Ultraleggeras fell off recently so I sent an email over to them enquiring about purchasing a new one. I received a new center cap in the mail a few days later free of charge :w00t: |

Ultimately, I purchased 4 wheels for the price of 3 here in Germany even without the German 19% sales tax.

They are mounted and looking good. Unfortunately my wife had to go out of town yesterday on business and I noticed when I got home she had taken my camera with her!!!
Aside from the obvious contrast of black wheels and red paint, the wheel offsets (et 40) are perfect for the car. It's like I have wheel spacers too (but without the added weight). The wheels are now flush with the fender. Also, the spokes are thin so you get a great look at the discs and calipers. On a ordinary car that wouldn't be such a great thing, but on the 135i it looks quite nice to show the brakes. Another noteworthy comparison to OEM is the added space between the calipers and inside wheel rim. I bet the space doubled on the front. So now cleaning it will be much easier. In addition, I did a lot of driving yesterday (afterwards) and last night I ran my finger across the wheel and it turned my finger black from the brake dust. I couldn't even see the dust really. I'm sure there will be a difference when I wash the wheels, but in the interim you don't notice wheel dust anymore. and yes I know...this post is worthless without pics. I'll soon remedy that (Sunday?), and hopefully I'll get my spoiler in before the weekend so I can mount that up. Damn USPS!

Glad you like them--I'm sure black on red looks great.
What size tires did you go with? Have you noticed any detriment to the handling due to the step down from 8.5 to 8.0 in the rear? We all eagerly await your pics! |

If anything the cornering has improved due to the wider stance, and dropping 8 pounds per corner certainly hasn't hurt either. Ride quality seems a little better, but it's hard to know for sure.

I'm still running in the motor, but I swear that my normal driving thus far (under 4,500 rpms) seems to want to spin the rear wheels easier now there's less weight on the rears. As an example, I've lit up the DSC light a few times exiting my favorite roundabout of late using moderate throttle input. Before the wheel switch the DSC never kicked in under what I would consider to be the same throttle input. I can only imagine there are only benefits with the lighter wheels, whether it be steering quickness, cornering, braking, fuel economy, or acceleration.

On the tirerack website they recommend a 215 tire size for the Ultraleggeras since they are not as wide as the OEM wheels...the stock 245's (I think thats what they are) fit just fine?

A good rule of thumb is the tire section width changes .2" for every .5" difference in wheel width for the same size tire.
Example: If a 225/40/18 is 8.9" wide on an 8" wheel it will be 9.1" on an 8.5" wheel or 8.7" on a 7.5" wheel.

One cool thing about the Ultraleggeras is that when in motion, it seems the spokes all but disappear. Looks cool when you see the car in reflections. Hell, I might have to let someone drive it just to see what it looks like in motion.
