NOLA Motor Sports--Delta SCCA Autocross - 1M
Went out to NOLA Motor Sports near New Orleans for the Delta SCCA Autocross event. It was my first time going to an autocross event. My wife came and rode with me, which was great. There were over 50 cars and a wide variety at that. Quite a few BMWs--135 with an amazing driver who heads the SCCA events, and a few older M3s. The facility was top-notch and great to see the Lamborginis, Vipers, and Porches running on the big track next to the skid pad where the event was held.
The car is obviously wayyyy more capable than I am, but I went into it as a learning experience to gather as much information as I could. The 135 owner rode with me and before that I rode with some other experienced drivers there before trying it myself with my wife with me in the car. The track was fairly tight and I was able to keep the car in second all the way through the course. I may have entered a few turns too hot as there was more understeer than I expected. The brakes on this car was amazing! I kept it in MDM mode with M-Sport on. I was able to make 5 runs and learned a ton. The 135 with the expert driver was turning around 1:06s and my best was 1:09. My times will come down with more experience and trust in myself that my car can handle the course. The persuit of the competition will keep us all coming back for more. I appreciate all of your insight and support on the forum. Here are a few pics and I will be uploading some video tomorrow hopefully. Uneditied run from inside car: |

Glad you had fun at the autocross!
The autocross course was a bit too washed out for me to make any commentary about your line, but I did notice two things: 1) Keep your hands on the steering wheel at known positions (usually 9 and 3'o clock). Wandering hands will make knowing (without looking) the positioning of the steering wheel a bit more difficult. I wasn't sure, but it seemed like you were uncertain if your steering wheel was straight at some point in the video. 2) Judging from your steering work, I suggest practicing looking ahead. I'm guessing you're noticing corner apexes and exits right before you pass them; instead, try looking ahead so you can plan your entire line through the turn (entry, apex, and exit). P.S. Your wife has nice legs! |

Just wondering, what tires were you running and where did you mount your go pro?
Getting an DOT legal R compound like r888s and running in A stock should help you out. |

The tires were OEM PS2s at the wear bars. I have a new set of PSSs ready to go on soon. I watched a bunch of stuff online before going and I do remember a bunch of I talking about hand positions. I tried to remember the positions, I don't remember every getting lost on the wheel, but I remember having to move my hands due to the sharpness of some turns. I play GT5 a lot so I know about lines, I tried my best, but I was just having some fun. I mounted the GO-PRO using the auction mount on the interior rear dome light. It fit perfect.
I'll tell the wife you guys said she has nice legs, lol. |

Fun video! I found the camera was mounted too high. If you add some goPro extensions, it might shake too much. If you're going to do a lot of goPro video in the 1M, I suggest mounting it on the head rest bars.
