Shift Knob repair

My shift knob has survived 100k+ miles. The silver is starting to peel. Is it better to finish it off and repaint it silver or is there another alternative?

My suggestion would be to purchase a new ZHP knob or the one for the M-sport or "is" option for the 1-series. Either are still available new. The ZHP generally sells for less than $75.
