1M Front fender Vent Tape

So, as most of you know, the original idea for the front fenders of the 1M during the design and engineering phase of the project was to have the current filled vent area cut out (stamped out). Unfortunately the cost and machining of the vents was deemed to complicated to meet the production schedule. So, the front fenders were produced as you see them today. The area that was to be stamped out is clearly visible.

Well, some of us have purchased vinyl tape to fit the area, which has a dramatic impact on the visual look of the front fenders. Short of touching the area, it appears that the vents are in fact there. The European source for the vent tape has dried up, so I searched previous threads and found a fellow Forum member who had a bunch made!

$20 per set, mailed.

Installation: Clean the area thoroughly, above and below the M sidelight. Cut the tape as close to the edges as you can and then peel just a bit of the flat edge and align to the bottom of the sidelight. Using your thumb or finger, press the tape (keeping it aligned) and peel the backing off slowly until the piece is fully seated. Repeat for the top.

I'll post pics this weekend, but for the Vo's and AW's, the difference is stunning. One of my old cars is offered for sale on EAG (currently) and you can see the tape I applied to that car (VO).

Jon is a great guy and easy to deal with, and he noted to me that he still has sets available.

No way! I am more inclined to buy your fourth one if you should ever decide to sell it, than part with it. I would love to have all three colors in my portfolio one day. Yeah, this car in my eyes and heart is that good. Love everything about it. Looks, performance, engagement, six speed manual only, low tech. You can just concentrate on the business of driving and enjoying it. A true enthusiast's vehicle. Definitely biased, but it deserves conversation as one of BMW's GOAT vehicles.

Going on 13 years of ownership it has 55k on the odometer. I work from home, so the interior is my office on the weekends. I drive it all 12 months of the year as long as temps are above 25 degrees, and no snow or salt is on the roads. I couldn't bear to wait 3 or 4 months while it hibernates during the winter as some people do. Over my ownership that would amount to 4 years of loss of enjoyment that you can never get back. Time is fleeting. Too much of a sacrifice in my mind.

I hope you bought this one to enjoy it and not just put it away under a hermetically sealed container.

Thanks. Lessons learned over four ownerships... the most important of which is to NOT SELL the car. My son came over to the house this weekend and took it for a drive. Nothing but smiles. "Damn!", he said, "I forgot how fast that car was!".

Kinda wanna try this vent vinyl tape but I’m afraid it may not stick. The entire car is ceramic coated and full front PPF.

It'll stick just fine. My car is full PPF... no issues and it will look 3X better!
