Soft top emergency cables pulled
Hello!! Recently I been having issues with my soft top after the car sitting for two months.. The soft top won't move, it just unlatches and locks when pressing close. Somehow I thought it was a good idea to pull the emergency cables on this to check if something was jammed and I was able to get the top down by hand but the clamshell won't lock, then I get the top back up and secure it with a hex tool. The left emergency cable sits stiff and the other one has some resistance. Now I get the gong spammed every time I go over 50 km/h, what can I do?! The only BMW specialized mechanics close to me (250 km) couldn't pinpoint it to anything.
No codes, no alerts. CVM appears green in ISTA, I've got a backup of it from when it worked but BimmerCode fails instantly. I couldn't use INPA as I didn't find the required file for the E88. I still got access to the trunk and what worries me is the pump draining the battery due to this problem as it wakes the car at random, does a couple of clicks and goes off again. ![]() Last edited by xwx88; 12-05-2025 at 08:56 PM.. |

With everything unlached, actuate all the moving parts by hand. I use a bundle of toilet paper to keep the clamshell open. With the top about half open, you should be able to slip you hand in between the top’s layers. Search for the cables and follow them front to back. One might be hung up on the top’s frame. I had this happen and it snapped the cable. I have replaced two cables in my top. It isn’t as difficult as it seems when you have the top half open.
Also, inspect everything inside the clamshell area. Something could be hung up or jammed. Lastly, in the trunk, move the shelf up and down a few times to make sure to actuate the convertible switch. If the top is having trouble moving on its own, you can use your hand to assist it. I agree, make sure you have a good condition, fully charged battery. If you don’t, get the biggest AGM batter that will fit in it. Good luck! Last edited by JustAnotherSportsCar; 12-06-2025 at 07:18 PM.. |
