Lets play the did my fuel pump diegame!

Well, I was afraid that someday I would make the failed HPFP list sooner or later. I have enjoyed my 135i for almost a year now with no problems at all other than the long crank on startup but today that changed.

I left work and the car started up fine for once and after driving for about 10 minutes the car started stumbling in 4th gear. I had no power and then the SEL light with the motor half lit came on. The car sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders and barely ran when I came to a stop. I did manage to drive it 30 miles to the BMW dealership without killing myself. LOL

On a good note, the dealer treated me like gold and gave me a sweet Dark Grey 335i sedan for a loaner. I hope to know tomorrow what the diagnosis on my baby is. I am actually really hoping it is the fuel pump so they can give me the updated one.

SO...what does everyone think?? Fuel pump or not?

I will enjoy the 335 in the meantime and I will do another post with my 135 vs. 335 comparison.

Thanks for letting me rant and I hope to be rolling in my 135 tomorrow night :-)

Later

Brian

I was just about to shoot an email to BMWNA to see if they can find out which fuel pump I have. Does anyone have the numbers of the bad fuel pump and the good one?

I know the last 3 digits of the good updated pump is 881. Do a search on fuel pump failure in the warranty forum and they are in there. I was just looking over there about 10 minutes ago.

99% sure it's your fuel pump. That is exactly what mine did.

Mine didn't die, but I did take it in to the dealer after a few long cranks. They identified an HPFP issue and replaced it. In-N-Out in a full day's turnover. Build date Nov. '08.

well the post above yours seem to say other wise . His build date is Nov 08

Is this a US only issue or do other countries have the same problem?

Could you perhaps list how many miles you had driven before the HPFP failure? I thought I would be safe since mine was a very late 08... but I'm not so sure now!

I have had the longest cranks ive experienced for the last 4 days or so. 7+ seconds in the morning. Im taking out the JB3 today so I dont get stuck with it in there...I kinda wish it would just go out already so I can get this over with...

I haven't heard from the dealer yet today but I am just hoping they call soon and say, "Sir, it was your fuel pump, its been replaced and its running fine"

Fingers are still crossed

Completely Stock...just tinted windows

I hope to put some type of axleback exhaust on sooner or later. I was going to ask the dealer how much labor cost to install the BMW Performance exhaust.

Getting ready to call dealer soon, im getting nervous.

Mine's also March 08 build and May 08 delivery.
I'm just waiting for it to happen as well. I just hope it doesn't happen in front of a large crowd...
I know it's been said 2000 times, but they really need to recall this one.

Good luck xG35guy.

Well I got my my car back last night with the updated 881 fuel pump! I feel like a kid on christmas

The E90 335 was a great loaner but no comparison to my 135. They feel like completely different cars.

It fired up immediately this morning so it fixed my long cranks that have been bugging me for months.

Good luck to the other members trying to get their pumps replaced, at least my baby didnt leave me stranded. I was able to drive it to the dealer after all..

Later

Mine failed this week. Just got my car back today.
I wonder how long the replacements last? Are they redesigned at all?
