Pics of the revised iCarbon spoiler installed

After many months of trying to decide what appearance mod to do next I decided on the CF spoiler. I was going to do one from China for under 200 bucks but after seeing countless issues with the install I was scared off. Then I called Mario at iCarbon and he assured me that their revised CF spoiler was an easy install with no issues of the ends coming up like the others have.

I have to say that this part fit like glove. No issues at all. The hardest part was getting the old tape crap off from the stock one. Lucky for me I have a Flex random orbital and some great pads and cutting compounds that helped get rid of that crusted on residue. One person can put this on alone. I just set it down first with the tape covered up and then marked where the edges and ends need to be on the trunk deck with tape then removed the red cover on the 3M tape and set it down lightly in case I needed to reposition.

Mario and Andy told me that I do not need clamps or anything like that for the install and the spoiler came with tape already in the vital areas. They said that additional tape was not necessary but I could put more in the center area under the spoiler but that if I did it would make it very hard to get it off at a later time if i needed or wanted to which I will when I trade the car in in a couple of years.

If any of you are wondering if it is worth the money it is 100%. very high quality construction and fitment was spot on.

Next part is either their Lip or Diffuser.

thanks again iCarbon

Cost? All these now come with preinstalled tape? Is there any jiggle in this spoiler when pressed?

If I did this mod I wouldnt want it jiggling at ALL if I pressed it some, id want it secure. How hard was the install, u said you didnt use clamps or any of that shit, so you just removed the stock one and the previous tape and then cleaned the area and pressed this one down?

Cost is 399 but I got it on sale for 299. Not sure if they are still doing that price. Not sure what you mean by jiggling when you press it but you can wiggle it if you want to put enough force. It does not feel like ti will pull up or peel off if that is your concern. If you wanted you can add extra tap where they did not put any to be even more secure but it is not needed. Also you may not be able to get it back off if you do that. It bonds really strong with the tape they already have on there. It goes all around the edges where it makes the most contact with the trunk. No clamps needed as well. Just put it on and press firmly. The only extra thing I did was put tape on the ends over night to make sure it stayed down. I have to say it really did not need that either. If you do it when it is warm or hot out it really sticks hard.

Thanks man! It is a great piece for sure. It is not Fiber re-enforced which is why it fits so well. It has flex to it which makes it lighter as well as conform to the the trunk deck easily.

Got any pics of the taped areas underneath?
About the taping overnight, i really dont see how taping it would make any difference unless u used a shiton of tape around the entire thing which would seem rediculous to me, and im assuming ur talkin painters tape or somethin right?

Dyou have any kind of actual full bonding time from the manufacturer of the tape, as in how long do THEY actually recommend the tape is held firm for it to bond successfully. Point is, if I were to do this, I would want to be SURE what exactly needs to be done and do that the first time, rather than fuck up or have it not bond completely and then have a mess on my hands.

You are over thinking this way too much. It is not that technical. Just peel off the old one and put the new one on, it is that simple. No bonding time calculations needed. It is 3M high strength molding tape for automotive use. I have no pics of it before install. Painters tape is what I used though just to hold the ends down over night, but like I said it was not necessary. It held down solid right away. If you get it just do it when it is warm out with the trunk deck hot from the sun after removing the old spoiler and tape then once the deck is heated up slap the new one on and you are good to go. Then leave it over night tapped down or if you want put some weight on the spoiler.

I had the old spoiler off and the old tape cleaned and the new one installed in 1 hour. That is because I had the Flex buffer though which really helped get the old crap off fast after removing the majority of it by hand with Goo Gone.

I like you and a lot of others over thought this install a lot. Icarbon has made this spoiler right and it installs right the first time. I showed it to my friend that has installed others as well as the BMW one and he liked it a lot. He mentioned that the BMW one is a paint to install with the ends wanting to come off since the BMW one is stiffer and does not conform as much. The older icarbon ones were like this as well. That is why they changed the construction.

Well I will never find out if it will hold up to those since they are terrible for your paint to have those giant blue buffer wheels touch your car. I only hand wash it myself. The tape is strong. I am not sure why everyone is so skeptical of the strength. It is designed specifically for automotive uses to hold things like this on the car.

Well if you really about quality of the product then please call Mario or Chris and talk to them and they can go into detail with you. They set my mind at ease and I am sure they would do the same for you. I would never put anything on my car that sucks by the way. Also I can tell you that I am one that obsesses over quality and perfection and ease of installation. I hated the idea of the other spoilers having to be beta linked and/or clamped down with extra weights on the thing. This is about as straight forward as you can get. I keep checking my spoiler every day to see if it is coming up any place and it is not. It is pretty well stuck on there.

Call icarbon and see if that helps you out more.

Sweet stuff man, not particularly ready financially yet, but maybe soon

Honestly, after the chargepipe/bov, JB+ and maybe HPF intercooler, thatll be it for performance mods for me. After that itll just be minor cosmetics n maybe this.

OEM is not $300 first off it is 500. And OEM is stiffer and harder to get it to stick down from everything I have seen on the net that people have posted about. It is a good part but icarbon is better.

Funny, my BMW Performance spoiler was a perfect fit. No issues with the ends popping up. I just held the spoiler down for a good 3-5 minutes and that was it. Not sure how a replica is better than OEM with the exception that it's at a better price.

You got lucky I guess. I spoke to several people with the OEM one and they had issues keeping down and had to clamp it. I know the icarbon is just as good if not better and I have seen both up close and held both in my hands. Thanks for the input though. BMW likes to over charge people for something that is no better. My friend has installed many at the dealer he works at and told me they can be a pain. Also the icarbon is lighter. To each their own though. If you want to spend a hundred or two more just to say you have an OEM part then that is your choice.

I just checked a local Southern CA dealer's site.....$528 INSTALLED. $382 for the spoiler only...... betalink will cost another whopping 10-20 bucks.

Last time I checked, BMW did all the R&D + design to make the parts and iCarbon just cloned their design. Of course it costs iCarbon less to make and can sell them cheaper. I don't understand why people don't get that. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with doing that, but people just need to realize that.
