6 MT Indicator.

I know the step transmission has a lighted indicator on the dash for gear selection. Why doesn't the 6 MT have that?

Because you can look at the stick and figure out what gear it's in.

As stated....you pick what gear you want. If you want to know what gear you're in, all you have to do is look down:

There is a reason why AUTOMATIC transmissions have a gear indicator and what MANUAL transmission do not, in cars/trucks.

I would think there is not a way to "code" in so the dash will tell you what gear you're in.

Yea you can have a lighted gear knob, here is the DIY for it.

I've been driving stick since I learned to drive - back in the seventies. I'm not sure how, but I always seem to know what gear I'm in, maybe due to a background awareness of revs to speed, my peripheral vision, or something else. I never consciously look at the shifter before I shift, and I always seem to reach it.

It's the 2nd -to-3rd gear throw. Am I in third or am I in fifth gear?
Sometimes I just don't know.

No idea if it's any good or not, but you can get a shift knob with a lit up indicator actually on the knob which tells you what gear you're in.

That would be so annoying!
I had an S-10 Blazer (5 MT) with a indicator light that flashed letting you know to shift up….a piece of electrical tape took care of that.

If you don't mind the indicator being on the shift knob... Check out the raxiom digital shift knob.. It's universal for all cars.. Regardless of being on a mustang website

Thanks for that. I want to teach my daughter how to drive my car. I see it as a helper.

While I find your reason understandable, I'd think it would be more helpful to have her learn by paying attention to things like the way the shifter feels in each gear, or how high the revs get at given speeds in certain gears. That way she's not stuck on looking for something that's not a common thing in a MT car.

Best of luck - I remember my father teaching me to drive stick in an E30 and man, I had some frustrating times but it was (obviously) all worth it in the end.

A glance at the gear shift should be all it takes to know. Occasionally I have to look at the tachometer and think for a second. I don't need an indicator.
