Brand new tires may still have a thin film on them. It's not unlike what my tires often seem like for the first couple hundred yards after they've been washed and cleaned. It wears off pretty quickly depending on the tire and how you drive.

All tires have a release agent on them so they come out of the tire molds when made. This oil takes some miles to "wear off" the outer surface. After say 400 miles the tires feel have much more grip. But at first new tires will feel "soft" and "greasy/slippery". What I mean by "greasy" is that the tires have a lot less grip and seem to have larger slip angles, but after a few hundred miles... they really "come alive". |

Hey Dack, if you could buy PSS's for your next tyres at the same price as the PS3's... would you? I'm currently wondering which one to go with. PSS's off tirerack are well priced but at the same time local dealers are giving me amazingly competative quotes on the PS3s.
I guess having local warranty on the tyres and free fitting is a decent +1 for the PS3s... |

That was the reason why I went with PS3's vs PSS's thru Tire Rack. I just did not want to deal with any hassles IF something went wrong. Its always better to deal with a local dealer. |

Thanks! Indeed it is something worthwhile. I'll enquire with Michelin AUS but I doubt they'd have the deal here... competition isn't as competative yet. Haha.

my next ones will be PS2 or PS3 PS2: front 225/40R18 + 245/35R18 or PS3: front 225/40R18 + 255/35R18 this option of spare is great and can leave us with clean conscience |

The 255's fit fine on the 8.5 inch rear wheels. Technically in the wheel guide books... you need a 9" wide wheel for a 255 tire. But we are only talking about 10mm's and it works fine. The first few days I would hear some tire rubbing from the rear. Only when the suspension went into full swing/compression. Just a tad - nothing bad. Then it stops. No rubbing since that first few days. Was like that with my 2nd rear set of tires. I've driven now over 30K kms on these PS3's and I really love them. 99% of 1addicts seem to agree. Make sure you get the versions with the XL(EL) load rating for a stiffer sidewall. These are the tires I have: Michelin PS3 FSL (I think the same as PSS in the states): 225/40ZR18 EL 92Y TL 255/35ZR18 EL 94T TL

What's up with that? Anything to be concerned with? |

No uneven tread wear at all. But its normal to burn thru the rear tires way before the fronts will wear out. Sometimes it is a two or three to one ratio! For me two!
Putting close to 400 HP thru the rears does not promote long tire life! PS: BMW is now equipping all F20's and F30's with 225/245 tires. That ought to tell you that our 225/255 setup works just fine. The 255's in the back are really the way to go - along with PSS tires. Pretty much everyone on 1addicts seems to concur.
