FNG at Ramstein
As forum customs go, here is my NEWB thread!
After getting the damn planets to aline, everything is final. Rikx1M's old '11 135i is now my 135i. Some info about me. My name is Peter, I'm stationed at Miesau but live on Ramstein. This is my second tour to Germany, first was Heidelberg from 05-08 at the hospital. Which also happened to be where I was born years ago. I was craving a deployment so I ended up PCSing to the center of the Army universe know as Fort Bragg. After a tour to Iraq, my wife and I decided that we didn't get enough of Germany the first time around. So here we are again. Past cars: 1) '81 El Camino (my first) 2) '90 Eagle Talon TSi, FWD 3) '90 Eagle Talon TSi, AWD 4) '93 Olds Cut Supreme coupe 5) '97 Mitsu Eclipse GSX 6) '07 Mustang GT 7) '09 Ford Fusion SEL I'm looking forward to digging into the BMW and making it more of my own, getting to know some of you guys and tearing up the tracks. First mods that I'm looking at is changing out the interior wood trim. I noticed somebody here on Ramstein wants to trade *hint* Also, does anybody have any experience with installing new LEDs for the angel eyes? I saw this kit: http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_LED_angel_eyes.html If you are local and have these installed can you post pics or maybe we can meet so I can check them out in person. I'm the guy that is all about picking up used mods. So please think of me when you are getting ready to sell something. |

As far as LEDs go. Alpine and Lux will be the brightest. I have alpines. All the other LEDs will give you a nice looking inner ring but the outer ring will hardly be noticeable during the day.

Do you have the red 135i on Miesau? If so, we are practically twins. I work at the 254th btw @JK: so it's just a matter of getting new LEDs on a harness as opposed to replacing the entire angel eye? Where did you get the Alpines and do you mind telling me the price so I can have an idea of what to pay? |

First welcome and second excellent choice in color! I live and work on Ramstein, I think I have the only other LeMans Blue. The other day were you at the shopette? I pulled next to one as it was pulling out of a space.

And no that wasn't me. My weekend went south so I haven't gotten out with the car. Hell not even to give it a good bath First mod is on the way though! Just ordered a set of HID LEDs for the Angel Eyes. Should be here in a week or so. I really can't wait to slap them on as the fugly yellow is driving me nuts when I pass a newer BMW. |

You just missed an outing to Stelvio Pass but several of us are itching to meet up at the 'Ring sometime soon.

Alpine has a website but I can't remember what it is. I got them from a guy on the forum for $150. The thing that makes alpine and lux the better choice in my opinion is that they come with a ballast instead of just a plug in setup like Weisslich (I have a set of them as well, not so good).

I know at least one line NOT to take...
I did what the red Alpha convertible did, ended up on the high curb.

That looks like the Ardeneur Forst section, thats where you had your runoff? Occasionally I'll go there to jog up the hill (its an Effing brutal climb) and sit and watch the cars for a bit at the top. From track side it looks complicated but not too bad. But from inside the car I would guess the cutback to the left and then right is completely blind since you are coming uphill.

The speed you're carrying from the previous down hill run combined with several repeating, gradual S curves followed by that hard left all add up to a very tricky area. I ended up on the high curb on my first run but not on the second. That was probably due to a lower entry speed, not hitting the apex correctly.
