I tied a f430 on the autobahn, i was on map 7, just on my way home from the nurburgring. I was putting along in the right lane at 70sih mph, and he flew by and blew my doors off, i dropped a couple gears and gave chase. There was some slow traffic on the road, so we never got side by side for very long, but i was glued to his bumper the entire time, id say we hit 170 a few times before we had to brake for traffic.
Earlier that day on the ring, i passed a (different color) f430 in the turn before the second carousel (someone will chime in with the real name of the turn). this isnt a win, but i raced my buddy in his ECS supercharged E92 M3, we were doing rolls from 50-60 to vmax, and he won every time (210 top speed to my 190) but i could pull a few cars at lower speeds until i hit about 160, he has the high end power to scream past me at those speeds. those races made me really want to get rb's. |

He has a 135i, so I'm assuming he is talking about that. You gotta keep in mind that a manual transmission 135i/335i have longer gears than an auto, so it is very possible that it only takes 1 shift in his 135i compared to 2 in an auto 135/335i.

An auto 135 takes 1 shift to 60 - and I shift at about 80. Ive driven both. A manual 135 has pretty similar shift points to the auto in my experience. And he was responding to a comment about STis. |

Not from my experience after driving both extensively. The manual equipped 135/335 most definitely have longer gears than the auto. I don't remember the exact ratios for each, but I do remember that the manual has a final drive of 3.06 while the auto has a final drive of 3.46.

Why would it turn into a manual vs auto thread? Manuals have longer gears, period. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...nmission+ratio

Yeah I noticed that. I meant you needed 3rd to hit 60.

A stock 135 vs a stock 70z might be neck and neck. I raced a 370z, which are rated at 332hp and took him by a car. I only have JB4, which proly puts me around 350hp...I don't think an 18hp difference would have allowed me to beat him by a full car length.
So I'm thinking stock 370 vs stock 135 = tie Stock 70 vs JB4 = car length win for 135 But who knows, I may be wrong... |

I haven't raced anyone in my auto, have only had it two days and Id like to keep this one longer than my last, but the two before my auto were manuals, the shift points are very similar but the manual is slightly longer in 1st for sure, the rest seem very close. My auto is faster than my manual tho, but it does have the performance pack, 20 more hp and 32 tq. But to add to the list, in my past two, many Camaros, mustangs, MS3, 335i, audis, a 370 but we didn't get a full run, kept up with a amg c500 but not for long if we had kept going, that's a damn fast car, so far that was the only clear loss and the manuals were all bone stock, no performance kits, I cant wait to see how the auto holds up, its def well below 5 in 0-60 BMW claims it shaves ..2 0-60 and .5 50-75 so Im assuming 1/4 mi around 1 second give or take a few tenths

Sorry to be OT but doesn't the shorter gear ratio in the auto explain the faster acceleration? That's what upgrading diff to final drive ratio does right? So how does more shifts result in being faster than the car in the next lane? Unless shifting more does not necessarily equate to being slower...
